Nothing to report on for mountain biking around the lake. The snowpack is still deep on most aspects, so the local trails won't be ready for a while. Tunnel creek is clear part of the way up and firm. The Reno trails are ready to go (not including Galena). The best option for spinning right now is to get out on that road bike and get your legs in shape.

There hasn't been much to report on for the last few months, but we just wanted you to know that the biking is still fantastic here in the basin. We have recieved plenty of precipitation and the dirt is firm and fast. The Rim and Flume trails are in as good condition as they'll ever be, so get out there and get those precious last rides before the snow really falls.

It's on. Almost all the local trails are free of snow. The Tahoe Rim Trail from Mt Rose Meadow is clear of snow. Remember, this section of the Rim is open to bikers on EVEN DAYS ONLY. The Xterra Loop is ready to ride. All Rim sections west of HWY 267 are free and clear. Here's a few shots from the other day on Missing Link.

Big news since the last report. Many trails are thawing out and ready to ride.
The Marlette Flume is open and clear of snow. It is rideable from Spooner Lake or Tunnel Creek Rd.
The Incline Flume is open and free of snow from Old Mt. Rose Hwy to Diamond Peak.
The Tyrolian Downhill is open from the top with some snowy spots in the higher elevations. It is free of snow from the Incline Flume down to Diamond Peak.
The Rim Trail from Tunnel Creek Rd north toward the meadow is clear of snow for 3 to 4 miles. There is still significant snow on the trail from behind Diamond Peak to the Mt Rose meadow. It should take about 2 weeks until the trail is clear enough to ride. This section of the Rim Trail (once clear) is open to bikers on even days only.
There are some tracks on the Rim Trail heading south from Tunnel Creek Rd toward Marlette lake, but there is still lots of snow on the north facing aspects. Give it some more time.
In the meantime, stay on the trail. Riding outside of established singletrack (around snowbanks) increases trail errosion and is strongly discouraged. Remember, the better we take care of our trails, the more likely we are to get more trails open to bikes in the future. The more we abuse existing trails, the more closures we will see. Keep singletrack single!

We haven't made much progress in melting snow since the last update. It's probably because of the 2 feet of new snow that fell last week. The north facing exposures here on the North Shore are still holding snow pretty well. The local trails are pretty close to being rideable though. The Incline Flume is almost 100% free of snow and the Tyrolian Downhill is open with minimal snow from the Incline Flume down to Diamond Peak. Tunnel Creek is still holding snow past the station, but melting quickly. The Flume Trail is rideable from Spooner if you don't mind hiking through some snowbanks that still exist in the shaded sections. Stay tuned for more info...

The ski season is really winding down and the mountain bike trails are starting to thaw out. Tunnel Creek Rd is ridable to Tunnel Creek Station and rumor has it we may be able to get to the Flume Trail in the next week or two. The Emmigrant Trail is open and in very good condition. It is ridable to the boat ramp with minimal wetness. Galena Creek Park is open, muddy in spots and very tacky right now. Some might even call it "bitchin'". Check back, as we'll update this report as soon as there is something to report.
