It's official, there's a new member of the Village Ski Loft family. Congratulations to Elko and Feather on their newborn baby girl!
In other news, the weather has had a hard time making up it's mind over the last few days. We have seen warm spring temps thru snow showers in the last 48 hours, and it looks like things may stay that way for another few days.
In the meantime, skiing still dominates the recreation front here at the lake. So don't pack those skis and boards away yet. It's going to be quite some time before there's any mountain biking to do on the local trails.

Wednesday, February 6th
The storm has broken for the time being and when the sun finally hit the slopes we saw an entirely different landscape than we did a month ago. We are well over 100% of normal snowpack for this time of year and all of the mountains have been blessed with base that will take us deep into the spring. We aren't even into our heaviest snowfall months yet either. The resorts are in prime condition right now and the backcountry has had time to settle in making the snowpack stable.
Superbowl Sunday
It's still snowing here in the basin and it doesn't show any signs of letting up. Over 15 feet of snow fell in the month of January. It is now February 3rd and the snow is still coming down, 2 feet of snow fell last night. We have not seen a January of this proportion in many years. The skiing is unreal. Watch out for avalanche danger. Saturday, January 26th
Its been snowing since the 21st and the mid-mountain storm total at Squaw is 50". The snow was extremely light and dry on Tueday, Wednesday, and Thrusday and it piled up quick. Friday, the temperatures climbed about 5 degrees and provided some denser snowpack. The skiing doesn't get much better than it's been the last week. Avalanche danger is still moderate to considerable due to the light, weak layer of snow that fell on top of hardpack. For more avalanche data and ski conditions, click here. Tuesday, January 22nd
The snow is back and temperatures are well below freezing. The snow that has fallen is light and dry. Acumulation totals range from a foot at lower elevations to in excess of two feet at higher elevations. You won't find that data on any of the resort reports, but the VSL crew definitely found some face shots today.
Saturday, January 5th
It's been snowing here since thursday morning and there are no signs of it letting up. Snow reports are varying, but somewhere between 40 and 60 inches of new snow have fallen in that time period. As of 8 pm Saturday, it is still nuking and the forecast is for it to keep up through Sunday, with another system on it's heels. Avalanche danger is extreme right now, so trips into the backcountry are not advisable for the next few days. There has been avalanche activity in the backcountry as well as at the larger resorts. In storms like this, if you must go skiing or riding, bring a buddy and wear a beacon.
Sunday, December 30th
Well, the holiday rush is on and we've been busy to say the least. It has snowed off and on over the last 4 days making for great skiing and riding conditions. Rumor has it that the Sierra's are in for a pretty good storm, starting sometime later this week. That's all we're going to say about it right now, though. We wouldn't want to jinx it now, would we?
Tuesday, December 18th
